Leah lives in a wealthy yet constraining household, caught between a dominant father and an arranged marriage imposed upon her. Hanan, her childhood friend whose love for her has accompanied him all his life, collapses and dies when he hears of her upcoming wedding.
On the day of Leah’s engagement, Hanan returns to her as a dybbuk  his voice breaking out from within her body, granting her freedom while also pulling her toward ruin.
This piece examines the struggle between social coercion and the search for one’s inner voice, and the right to love according to one’s own choice.
